In the reign of Ahmed III (1703-1730), one of the periods that left a mark in the history of Ottoman culture, we encounter an intense architectural production. Fountain structures have been the most built type of structure of this production process and have come to the fore especially with their ornament details. The Ahmed III Era Istanbul Fountains book, which was prepared by Hatice Aynur and Hakan T. Karateke, presents a review of this entire historical story through water structures. Within the scope of the study, which was revised and enriched with up-to-date information and visuals, 213 water structures that have survived or not have been identified. In this review which has a wide selection of types from pit fountains to wall fountains, a database consisting of inscription details as well as architectural features have been shared with the readers.
Hatice Aynur and Hakan Karateke, with great patience and effort, investigate and compile the verse dates of the “Tulip Era” in Istanbul, which can still be seen or found in various sources, especially in the collected poems. They convey them carefully and while doing so, they try to keep alive a distant past, which is being forgotten, with great love. Semavi Eyice, 1995
