About the collection

The Fatma Aliye Hanım Collection consists of 418 various archival sources, a large part of which are the author's own works and drafts. Fatma Aliye Hanım (1862-1936) is known as Turkey's first female novelist. She also wrote translations. Fatma Aliye Hanımused a pseudonym for a while due to the lack of acceptance of women's presence in literature. She was able to publish under her own name after she gained fame and recognition. Her father is the author and historian Ahmet Cevdet Pasha, whose works are also included in the Atatürk Library’s Digital Collections.

This collection includes the draft notebooks of a novel “Enin”, the unfinished theater play “Sabiha”, the draft of the book “Ahmet Cevdet Paşa ve Zamanı” written about her father's life, the texts she wrote about women and Islam, her speech texts, newspaper clippings from her articles published in the Tercüman-ı Adalet Newspaper, her poems, lists titled Famous Ottoman and Islamic Women and other study drafts.

In addition, there are also letters from Pierre Loti, from the World's Columbia Exposition requesting the author's biography, and private letters from Faik Pasha. Aid lists, profit and loss account statements, receipts, and promissory notes related to Cemiyet-i İmdadiye constitute another part of the collection.
