About the collection

Muhsin Ertuğrul worked as a director and art director at Darülbedayi. He also staged plays with the troupe he founded at Ferah Theater, directed the Ankara State Conservatory Practice Stage, and served as the chief director of the Istanbul City Theater for a period. Between 1922 and 1939 he was the only person to make films in Turkey, making him a pioneer in the field of cinema in Turkey. The collection includes a total of 5301 volumes, of which 440 volumes are in Ottoman, 1539 in Turkish, 3322 in German, French and English. The collection’s books subjects are related to the art of theater and the art of theater-cinema.

The Muhsin Ertuğrul Collection includes a total of 12570 documents such as correspondence with international theater institutes, reports, notes of events and meetings attended, letters, invitations and notes related to the instructions, and the writings and role distributions of the IMM City Theater.
