Established upon the request of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of the Republic of Turkey, the historic Büyükdere Nursery has been revitalized with a variety of services. As part of this renewed initiative, the Ahmet Bedevi Library opened its doors to readers on November 26, 2023, offering a collection of 18,500 works and a capacity of 145 people.

Originally founded in 1928 as the Büyükdere Nursery and Gardening School and actively used until 1997, the site was transferred to the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB) in 2013. After being unused and heavily damaged for years, the area was reimagined in 2022, preserving its original function as a gardening school while adding new public services.

The redevelopment project, carried out with respect for the site’s historical value, now includes a cafeteria, restaurant, seed center, event space, basketball court, and a library, all spread across 180,000 square meters.

Situated in one of Istanbul’s prominent green areas, the Ahmet Bedevi Library offers a rich collection of contemporary works across various disciplines from leading publishing houses. Occupying 525 square meters, the library accommodates up to 145 users and also hosts events that reflect the unique identity of the space.

Borrowing Services and Membership

All local residents can benefit from the borrowing services of the Ahmet Bedevi Library and all other libraries affiliated with the IBB Directorate of Libraries and Museums.

To become a member, users can register quickly using the “İBB Kütüphane Mini App” within the İstanbul Senin mobile application and gain access to all services.

Alternatively, membership can be completed through e-Devlet (turkiye.gov.tr). Search for “İstanbul Büyükşehir Belediyesi Kütüphane” and click the "Belediye Kütüphaneleri Üyelik Bilgileri Sorgulama ve Üyelik Başvurusu" link. Fill in the required information and click “Apply.” You will receive login credentials via SMS and email to access all IBB library services.

Membership can also be obtained in person at any IBB library by presenting a valid official ID (e.g., Turkish ID card, driver’s license, or passport).
