As one of the first examples of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality's initiative to transform traditional libraries into vibrant spaces for living and cultural activities, the Ahmed Arif Library officially opened on April 4, 2021.
Named after the renowned poet Ahmed Arif, the library is located in the Sultangazi district of Istanbul. It spans 1,700 square meters over eight floors, accommodates 150 users, and offers a collection of 23,195 books.
The library includes workshop areas for digital software and video production, as well as YouTuber studios, responding to the increasing interest of youth in these fields. A dedicated children’s section offers a wide selection of children's books and play areas, providing a welcoming and educational environment for younger visitors.
On the second floor, the Ahmed Arif Corner features the first edition (1968) of the poet’s acclaimed book Hasretinden Prangalar Eskittim, along with later editions in various designs and languages, and books written about Ahmed Arif.
As one of many libraries opened in socially disadvantaged areas of Istanbul, the Ahmed Arif Library hosts a wide range of workshops and events, including literature, theater, visual arts, and music. It also provides young people with a comfortable space to study and join exam preparation programs.
