Designed with the vision of transforming Istanbul’s traditional library concept and providing not only rich book collections but also functioning as cultural and educational hubs, the Attilâ İlhan Library was opened on August 3, 2022 by Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality.

Located in Cennet Neighborhood of Küçükçekmece, the library serves on a 375 m² area with a 100-person capacity. In line with the principle “No district shall be left without access to culture, art, and books,” the library aims to reach children and young people living in underprivileged and overlooked areas of the city.

Since its opening, the library has attracted great attention and keeps alive the name of Attilâ İlhan, a master poet who, over his 80-year life, produced numerous works, advocated for social peace and freedom, and brought unique perspectives to Turkish literature.

The Attilâ İlhan Library revitalizes the region by hosting various activities such as:

• Literature, theatre, painting, music, and art workshops

• Educational programs for children

• Support seminars for parents

• Creative writing workshops

• Author-reader meetups

• Cartoon and illustration events

• Screenwriting and video art workshops

• IT-focused workshops

The library holds a collection of 15,596 books covering topics such as history, literature, political science, philosophy, research and analysis, art, computer science, technology, science, belief systems, personal development, cultural heritage, architecture, and design. It also includes children’s books and periodicals.

Residents in the area, as well as all citizens of Istanbul, can benefit from the loan services offered by this library and other libraries affiliated with the Library and Museums Branch Directorate of the Department of City History and Promotion under Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality.

To become a member, users can:

• Use the “İBB Kütüphane Mini” feature in the Istanbul Senin mobile app

• Visit turkiye.gov.tr (e-Government), search for “İstanbul Büyükşehir Belediyesi Kütüphane”, click the “Library Membership Application and Inquiry” link, fill out the required information, and submit the form.

• Log in using the SMS or email password they receive to access all library services.

Alternatively, users may apply directly at the library by presenting a valid official ID such as a Turkish ID card, driver’s license, or passport.
