Baruthane Library Information Note
Ataköy Baruthane, an important surviving example of Ottoman gunpowder factory structures, was reopened to Istanbul residents with its renewed face on January 9, 2024.
Following comprehensive restoration and adaptive reuse works by the İBB Heritage teams affiliated with the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Department of City History and Promotion, the facility was transformed into a public living space named "Baruthane." Ataköy Baruthane now serves Istanbul with a library, museum, observation terrace, cultural event spaces, as well as multifunctional units and social venues such as a café.
Baruthane Library will welcome readers with a collection of 8,000 works in areas including urban and architectural studies, literature, art, and history. The library operates on a 330 square meter area with a capacity of 110 people.
The two-story venue houses the library, museum, exhibition area, stage for concerts and similar events, and a café.
Baruthane Library is preparing to host various events contributing to Istanbul’s cultural and artistic life.
