Cemil Meriç Library Information Note
Opened with a ceremony attended by İBB Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu on September 16, 2022, Cemil Meriç Library is located within the new cultural center in Boğazköy. This center was built to meet various needs of Istanbul residents and houses institutions such as the Public Health Center, Yuvamız İstanbul, Sports Facility, Regional Employment Office, and İSMEK.
Our second library in Arnavutköy is named after Cemil Meriç, a thinker who holds an important place in Turkish literature as a writer, translator, and sociologist.
Organized with a new-generation library approach, Cemil Meriç Library has a collection of 14,000 works including books in history, literature, political science, philosophy, research and investigation, art, informatics, technology, science, belief, personal development, cultural heritage, architecture and design, children’s books, and periodicals.
Covering an area of 602 square meters with a capacity of 150 people, the library serves not only the residents of Arnavutköy but also all Istanbul residents. It hosts various activities such as creative writing workshops, author-reader meetings, cartoon and illustration workshops, screenplay workshops, video art studies, and informatics workshops.
The library also meets the study space needs of young people in the region.
