The Gülten Akın Library, located in Esenyurt Kıraç Şehitler Neighborhood, was put into service on August 5th, 2022. It was designed in line with the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality’s vision of bringing new libraries to Istanbul that will operate as culture and education centres as well as rich book collections.
The library is named after Gülten Akın, one Turkey’s prominent poets, whose works deals with social problems, poverty, loneliness, and the stories of strong women. The library has a collection of 15,000 books.
Gülten Akın Library is one of the next generation libraries aiming to revitalise disadvantaged regions and neglected districts by reaching children and young people. The library hosts many activities such as literature, theatre, painting, music and art workshops, educational activities for children, supportive seminars for parents, study programs that students can attend during exam preparation periods, creative writing workshops, writer-reader meetings, and cartoon and illustration workshops. It has a 220 person capacity in an area of 600 square meters.
All residents of the region can benefit from the lending services of the Gülten Akın Library as well as all libraries affiliated to the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Department of Cultural Heritage, Directorate of Libraries and Museums. Readers who wish to become members should apply to our libraries with an officially valid identity document such as a TR ID card, driver's license, or passport.
