The Trolleybus Power Station, which had been left idle for many years, has been restored and repurposed as a library by the İBB Miras teams under the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality’s Department of Urban History and Promotion, bringing it back to life for Istanbul.

Designed with the philosophy that “a library is the heart of a university,” the Library Trolleybus embodies the characteristics of a “living” public space through the active participation and use by young people.

Opened to the public with a ceremony on March 1, 2022, the library serves with a collection of 12,600 works spanning various genres, including history, literature, political science, philosophy, research and analysis, art, IT, technology, science, faith, personal development, cultural heritage, architecture, design, and periodicals. Located in Beyazıt, at the heart of a cultural heritage island surrounded by universities, libraries, and monumental structures, the Library Trolleybus reflects the energy of students throughout the city.

With a total area of 490 square meters and a capacity of 150 people, our library has become a meeting hub, offering multipurpose use with dedicated meeting tables for university students and clubs, event and discussion spaces, and exhibition areas.

Local residents can benefit from the lending services of the Library Trolleybus, as well as all libraries affiliated with the Library and Museums Directorate under the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality’s Department of Urban History and Promotion. Readers who wish to become members can quickly register and access our services through the İBB Library Mini application via the İstanbul Senin mobile app.

For membership procedures via e-Government, users should log in to turkiye.gov.tr, search for "İstanbul Büyükşehir Belediyesi Kütüphane" (Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Library), and click on the link titled "Belediye Kütüphaneleri Üyelik Bilgileri Sorgulama ve Üyelik Başvurusu" (Municipal Libraries Membership Information Inquiry and Application). On the page that opens for new memberships, they can complete their application by filling in the required information and clicking the 'Apply' button. By logging in with the password sent via SMS to their mobile phones and to their email addresses, they can access all services of İBB libraries.
