Designed by architect Vedat Tek in the neoclassical style between 1916 and 1917, Moda Pier, one of Istanbul’s oldest piers, has been restored by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality’s Department of Urban History and Promotion, gaining a completely new appearance.
Having served various functions such as a restaurant, pier, and casino over the years, the historic pier was repurposed as a book café and library through a re-functionalization project. It was reopened to the public on August 19, 2022, with a ceremony attended by İBB Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu. Our library, hosted by Moda Pier, welcomes Istanbulites with its open-air study areas, terrace, and rich book collection.
With its new concept as a book café and performance space, it offers Istanbulites a workspace and easy access to books in one of the city’s central locations. Spanning an area of 250 square meters with a capacity of 100 people, the Moda Pier Library boasts a collection of 5,816 books.
The library section of the historic pier houses works from a wide range of genres, including literature, history, political science, philosophy, research and analysis, art, IT, technology, science, faith, personal development, cultural heritage, architecture and design books, children’s books, and periodicals.
