The Özgen Berkol Doğan Science Fiction Library was established in December 2012 by the family of the young scientist Özgen Berkol Doğan, who passed away in 2007, to keep his memory alive.
In 2022, through a signed protocol, the library became part of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Department of Urban History and Promotion, Library and Museums Division. Located in Kadıköy, Istanbul, the library offers a collection that fosters scientific and cultural exchange across generations, attracting both young people from the surrounding area and Istanbulites from all over the city.
As Turkey’s first and only science fiction library, the Özgen Berkol Doğan Science Fiction Library provides readers with works published in different languages in the fields of science fiction, fantasy, and horror literature. Its extensive collection consists of 15,611 works, focusing mainly on science fiction and fantasy, and includes books in Turkish as well as in various foreign languages.
The Özgen Berkol Doğan Science Fiction Library operates on a 185-square-meter premises with a capacity of 50 people. It regularly hosts events such as music talks, horror movie hours, cinema talks, Sunday conversations, film screenings, and discussions.
All local residents can benefit from the lending services of the Özgen Berkol Doğan Library, as well as all libraries affiliated with the Library and Museums Division of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Department of Urban History and Promotion.

For membership procedures via e-Government, users should log in to turkiye.gov.tr, search for "İstanbul Büyükşehir Belediyesi Kütüphane" (Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Library), and click on the link titled "Belediye Kütüphaneleri Üyelik Bilgileri Sorgulama ve Üyelik Başvurusu" (Municipal Libraries Membership Information Inquiry and Application). On the page that opens for new memberships, they can complete their application by filling in the required information and clicking the 'Apply' button. By logging in with the password sent via SMS to their mobile phones and to their email addresses, they can access all services of İBB libraries.
Alternatively, readers wishing to become members can also apply to our libraries in person with an officially valid identification document such as a Turkish ID card, driver’s license, or passport.
