Designed as part of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality’s vision to build new-generation libraries across the city that function as centers of culture and knowledge, the Sabahattin Ali Library opened on October 11, 2022.
Located in Altınşehir Neighborhood of Başakşehir, the library is named after Sabahattin Ali, a distinguished intellectual and author who is a significant representative of social realist literature. Despite a life marked by imprisonment and exile, his writings continue to influence generations.
The library operates on a 508-square-meter area with a capacity of 110 people, offering readers a diverse and contemporary selection of 17,000 books across different disciplines. Like other libraries, the Sabahattin Ali Library organizes educational and entertaining workshops for children, and seminars for adults.
Supporting access to distance education with its technological infrastructure, digital library, spacious reading areas, conference rooms, event and workshop spaces, and YouTube recording studios, the library has quickly become a hub for the local community since its opening. It also serves as an important study space for the youth of Başakşehir.
All residents of the area can benefit from the borrowing services at Sabahattin Ali Library, as well as all libraries affiliated with the Library and Museums Branch Directorate under the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Department of Urban History and Promotion.
Readers wishing to become members can easily apply with an official identity card (Turkish ID, driver’s license, or passport) at the library, or register quickly using the İBB Library Mini application via the İstanbul Senin mobile app.
For membership via e-Government, log in at turkiye.gov.tr, search for "İstanbul Büyükşehir Belediyesi Kütüphane" (Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Library), and click the "Belediye Kütüphaneleri Üyelik Bilgileri Sorgulama ve Üyelik Başvurusu" link. Fill out the required information for new membership and complete the process by clicking 'Apply'. You can then access all İBB library services with your SMS and email password.
