Aiming to spread new-generation libraries to every corner of the city, Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality opened the Salah Birsel Library on May 20, 2023.
Located in Üsküdar’s Yavuztürk Neighborhood, the library shares its space with a nursery, Regional Employment Office, and İBB Women’s Units, making books more accessible while addressing the needs of the community.
Named after Salah Birsel, a distinguished figure in Turkish literature known for his poetry and essays, the library has become one of İBB’s cultural, artistic, and knowledge hubs in areas with limited social facilities.
Salah Birsel Library serves its visitors in a 428 m² area with a seating capacity of 160. The modern collection consists of 10,419 works from various disciplines, offering up-to-date selections for readers.
The library regularly hosts educational and instructive workshops for children and engaging talks for adults. It also provides essential study space for young people preparing for university and high school entrance exams, supporting them with various activities throughout the exam period.
All local residents may benefit from the lending services of Salah Birsel Library, as well as all libraries affiliated with the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Department of Urban History and Promotion, Library and Museums Branch Directorate.
