Çubuklu Silolar l Doğa ve Bilim Müzesi

The gas silos in Beykoz Çubuklu, which had been unused for some time, have reopened as one of Istanbul’s major cultural and arts centers thanks to the restoration and adaptive reuse carried out by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality.

Spanning a total area of 20,000 square meters, the Çubuklu Silos complex welcomes visitors with a Digital Arts Museum, Nature and Science Museum, workshops, library, welcome center, stage, sky meadow, children’s play areas, café, and restaurant. Integrated into the city’s cultural, artistic, and scientific life, this new center offers visitors a unique and comprehensive Istanbul experience.

The opening exhibition of the Çubuklu Silos Nature and Science Museum, titled “Âlem” (“The Universe/World”), focuses on the concepts of universe, Earth, nature, life, and civilization, taking visitors on a mental journey.

About “Âlem”

Located across three separate silos, the themed sections “Universe & Earth,” “Life,” and “Civilization” create a multisensory experience with light, sound, and scent.

  • Universe & Earth: This silo offers a journey of discovery across a timeline from the Big Bang to the present, featuring 16 different narratives that spark curiosity in the visitor.

  • Life: This silo presents more than 300 selected living species, chosen from the millions that have existed from the beginning of life to today.

  • Civilization: Starting from cave life, this silo narrates the history of humanity in a chronological (but not didactic) manner, inviting visitors on a historical adventure that extends to contemporary challenges such as disasters and climate issues.
