The Istanbul Fire Brigade Museum, which was relocated to the Kılıç Ali Paşa Water Cistern in Beşiktaş in 2013, opens its doors to visitors with a unique look into the city’s firefighting history.
With a legacy spanning over three centuries, the museum was transferred to the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality’s Department of Libraries and Museums in 1996. While preserving the professional memory of firefighting, the museum also serves as an educational and informative institution, representing a living and active organization.
Counted among the world’s leading collections, the museum displays a wide range of firefighting equipment from neighborhood pump teams to modern firefighters. The collection includes some of the earliest fire-fighting tools, hand-crafted pumps, signal baskets used in Beyazıt Tower, the first motorized fire vehicles, horse-drawn fire carts, protective masks, lanterns, rescue ropes, and many other original items.
With a total of 841 artifacts, the museum continues to offer information on the history of firefighting to students of all ages—from preschoolers to university level.
