Haliç Sanat-3

Thanks to meticulous restoration and adaptive reuse projects carried out by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality’s Heritage teams under the Department of Urban History and Promotion—following universal conservation principles and techniques—the historic houses in the Fener district have been repurposed as living spaces and exhibition galleries for the city.

The building located on Mürsel Paşa Street in Balat Neighborhood, dating back to the 18th century, is constructed of masonry using an alternating pattern of stone and brick. It consists of a total of three floors, including the ground floor. Each floor has a separate, independent entrance. The ground floor is rectangular in plan and covered with a barrel vault, while the first floor features a single-room plan covered by a mirrored vault. On this floor, vegetal motifs and curtain patterns on the walls and ceiling attract attention. The niche-shaped openings on the first and second floors indicate the original interior features of the building. However, due to the complex layout and later interventions, some of the building’s original interior authenticity has been lost.

Located along the cultural route stretching from Cibalikapı to the Sveti Stefan Church on the coastline, Haliç Sanat is an important stop, hosting exhibitions by prominent figures in contemporary art.
