Mecidiyeköy Sanat Gallery was introduced to Istanbulites as part of the revitalization and transformation project aiming to make Mecidiyeköy Square—one of Istanbul's busiest hubs—a central point for culture, art, and community gatherings.

Previously nothing more than an empty space, the area was redesigned to give the heart of Mecidiyeköy a new public and cultural identity. After years of being underutilized, the square—used daily by hundreds of Istanbul residents—became one of the city's newest public venues following a 10-month renovation, reopening on October 21, 2021.

In addition to the art gallery, the square now hosts Turkey's first ever Lending Library, İstanbul Kitapçısı (Bookstore), a BELTUR kiosk, and a Solution Center. Together, these facilities have turned the square into a vibrant new cultural and artistic meeting point in Istanbul.

Since its opening, Mecidiyeköy Sanat Gallery has continued to contribute to urban life through its exhibitions that keep social memory alive.
