Rising in the heart of Istanbul amidst the historical fabric of Beyoğlu, Metrohan occupies a unique place in the city’s memory with a history spanning from 1914 to the present day. As one of the landmarks of Tünel Square, the building was restored by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality and reintroduced to city life.
On the first two restored floors, exhibitions, talks, concerts, and theater performances are organized, offering a fresh new breath to Istanbul’s vibrant art scene. Metrohan serves as a unique venue that brings together various branches of art within its historical atmosphere.
Since its opening, Metrohan has hosted a range of exhibitions including “Fraktal”, “Mina’s Children”, “Place.Antakya.Memory”, “Do You Remember Sarajevo?”, “Between Times and Layers”, and “Timeless Time: The Secret Door.”
The History of Metrohan
Originally designed as a six-story building, a seventh floor was added in 1928. Its marble floors and stairs, Art Nouveau style balustrade decorations, and its elevator reflect the architectural trends of its era. In 2007, Metrohan was registered as a cultural property, placed under the status of a Grade II protected building.
