As part of the transformation of Hasanpaşa Gasworks into a public cultural and arts venue, the Afife Batur Library opened its doors to readers on July 9, 2021.

Named after Afife Batur, an academic who played a key role in supporting the conversion of Hasanpaşa Gasworks into Museum Gazhane, the library was designed by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB) with a vision that goes beyond the traditional concept of a library.

With a collection of over 5,000 works, the library offers a wide range of resources in fields such as general knowledge, art, science, history, research, urban studies, ecology, architecture, philosophy, and sociology. It operates in a 200-square-meter area with a seating capacity for 160 users.

Located in Museum Gazhane, a lively cultural hub in the daily lives of city residents, the library also features a shared study area where visitors can work together in a quiet setting.

With its interdisciplinary approach, the Afife Batur Library has become a center of culture, art, and knowledge, regularly hosting workshops and talks for all age groups.

Borrowing Services and Membership

Local residents can benefit from the borrowing services of all libraries under the IBB Directorate of Libraries and Museums, including the Afife Batur Library.

Those who wish to become members can easily register via the İBB Kütüphane Mini App within the İstanbul Senin mobile application to access all available services.

Alternatively, you can sign up through e-Devlet (turkiye.gov.tr) by searching for “İstanbul Büyükşehir Belediyesi Kütüphane” and clicking on the "Belediye Kütüphaneleri Üyelik Bilgileri Sorgulama ve Üyelik Başvurusu" link. Complete the form and click "Apply." With the password sent via SMS or email, you can access all IBB library services.

Membership is also possible by visiting the library in person with a valid official ID (Turkish ID card, driver’s license, or passport).

Reservation Rules

To make a reservation, follow these steps:

• Log in to your library account at https://katalog.ibb.gov.tr

• Click the Reservation tab in the top menu.

• Use the interactive map to select an available seat and time slot.

• At the time of your reservation, scan the QR code sent to your phone at the kiosk at the library entrance for both check-in and check-out.

You can also make reservations through the İBB Kütüphane Mini App in the İstanbul Senin mobile application.

Important Reservation Guidelines:

• Seats can be reserved one day in advance.

• A maximum of 3 reservations per day is allowed. To make a second reservation, the QR code of the first must be scanned.

• Reserved time slots appear gray, available slots appear green.

• Reservations can be canceled online.

• If not checked in within 15 minutes of the reserved start time, the reservation is automatically canceled.

• Library staff may modify or cancel reservations when necessary.

• No food or drink is allowed inside the library, but personal thermoses are permitted.

Note:
Memberships created through the “Sign Up” tab on katalog.ibb.gov.tr grant access only to the digital collection.

To make seat reservations, you must use the İBB Kütüphane Mini App in the İstanbul Senin mobile application.
